We are sad to hear of the death of Desmond Scott, son of the composer Cyril Scott for whom the Society unveiled two Blue Plaques in the village this summer. Desmond was a director, actor, writer and an accomplished sculptor and died in Canada, where he had lived since 1957. In 2018 he co-edited a publication of ‘The Cyril Scott Companion”, a tribute to his father, his music and his spiritual beliefs.
Desmond Scott was a man of integrity, with a keen sense of humour, witty, kind, and always a gentleman. He was very supportive of the Blue Plaque project and contributed towards the Society’s initiative.
His wife, Corinne, has written to the Society following his death:
“We did appreciate all you and the Oxton Society did and have done for C.S. these past years. Desmond was very happy to see both the video and the little booklet very much, and also to see the Blue Plaque installed on his father’s former house.
We were pleased that he saw the book he brought to fruition and co-edited, “The Cyril Scott Companion” was published last December. It meant a great deal to him.
